Custom Jewelry in Denver: Design Your Jewelry at Our Studio

When it comes to picking out custom jewelry in Denver, there are a lot of exceptional jewelers to consider. Working with a jeweler allows you to put a more personal touch on a piece of jewelry and create something that is totally unique. And, if the jeweler is local to you, there’s an even deeper connection to the craftsmanship of the piece.
So, how should you go about picking a designer in Denver? And is there a way to get a custom piece of jewelry without a huge financial investment?
Here are our tips for picking a designer and a financially friendly option to get custom jewelry in Denver.

Why Choose Custom Jewelry in Denver?
There’s nothing wrong with collaborating with a jeweler online to create a custom design. However, if your jeweler is local, there are some benefits to designing your piece in the studio.
You’ll get hands-on experience of working with a jeweler. Collaborating in person can help creative juices flow and offer unique opportunities.
Your purchase will also support local artisans and your greater community. This gives your already thoughtful gift even deeper significance.
It’s also a fun educational opportunity to learn more about how jewelry is made.

Step-by-Step Guide to Designing Custom Jewelry
Traditionally, working with a jeweler has had a very similar process no matter who you’re designing with.
It starts with a consultation, where you meet the designer to share your vision, budget, and timeline. The designer will then sketch and model your ideas to create a tangible design.
You’ll select the materials you’d like to use in the piece. Your designer then presents you with a design to make final adjustments. The next thing you know, your custom piece of jewelry is at your front door or ready for pick up!
But at Waystone, we’ve found a way to create custom stone jewelry that’s meaningful and unique without the price tag most jewelers charge. How?
Simple—we’ve refined the process so you can send us your own collected stone. We turn it into a keepsake for a fraction of the cost of gemstone jewelry.

How do I choose a custom jeweler?
Choosing a custom jeweler may feel like a big investment. And, rightfully so. An artisan is going to build something completely unique for you. When you add the cost of their time and expertise, plus precious stones and materials… well, it all adds up.
One of the easiest ways to start whittling down your options is to be realistic with your budget for the piece. Most custom jewelry designs start at around $500 and only go up from there.
If you have that kind of money to spend, you’ll want to vet the designers you want to work with. Once you find a jeweler that’s a good fit for your budget, make sure they’re also a good fit stylistically. You’re designing something from scratch, so it’s a good idea for them to have similar pieces to what you’re looking for so you know they can achieve your vision.
You can also consider the location. If you want to meet with the designer in person, or support your local economy, you may want to pick someone in your city or nearby.
What do you do if you don’t have $500+ to spend on a custom piece of jewelry?
Price is one of the biggest barriers that keeps people from creating custom pieces of jewelry. When we founded Waystone, we wanted to change that. By creating jewelry from your responsibly collected stones, we can craft meaningful custom pieces at an affordable price.

The Waystone Way of Creating Custom Jewelry in Denver
Located at Peoria and 49th, our studio allows you the opportunity to either send us your stone or to join us in person to watch us bring your custom piece to life.
First, decide what type of custom jewelry you’d like made, including a ring, necklace, earrings or cufflinks. Then schedule an appointment by emailing hello@mywaystone.com. We prefer to work with you during the week and business hours, but can make a weekend work upon special request.
Once we’ve picked a day and time, you can pick either to drop your stone off (and perhaps point out which section of the stone you’d like fashioned into a piece of jewelry) or you can stay for part of the process. If you would like to stay and watch your stone be shaped, plan on around 45 minutes. Your jewelry will take 2-4 weeks to complete, but we won’t make you wait in our studio that long.
It’s a fast way to get a one-of-a-kind piece created for you or someone you love.

Does custom jewelry hold value?
Yes, custom jewelry does hold its value! Consider that no one else in the world has a piece like the one you’re planning on creating. Mass produced jewelry means there are many of the same pieces available for purchase, lowering the overall value. The stone itself may be priceless to you and your family and the gold and silver always retains its value.
When you create something unique, you’re the only person in the world who owns a version of it—making it rare and can sometimes even increase its value.
How much does it cost to have custom jewelry made?
Previously, custom jewelry has been expensive to create—rightfully so! You’re working with an artisan to design a one of a kind piece.
But at Waystone, we found a way to create custom pieces at a fraction of the price. By sending us your stone, you’ll save on the cost of custom jewelry. It’s a financially savvy way to create something one of a kind.
Why is custom jewelry so expensive?
Custom jewelry is expensive because it involves skilled craftsmanship, unique designs, and premium materials.
Unlike mass-produced pieces, custom jewelry is tailored to the buyer’s specifications, requiring meticulous attention to detail and significant time for design, prototyping, and production. Jewelers often work with high-quality precious metals and gemstones, which add to the cost. Additionally, the design process typically includes consultations, 3D modeling, and revisions to ensure the piece meets the customer’s vision. These factors, combined with the expertise of artisans and the exclusivity of a one-of-a-kind creation, make custom jewelry a high-value investment in both quality and personal expression.
At Waystone, we’re able to offer a custom jewelry experience at a fraction of the price, without compromising on design or sentimental value! By sending us your stone you’ll be able to create a meaningful piece for someone you love (or yourself) without breaking the bank.
