Wisconsin Moonstone → Rockhounding Gifts

Wisconsin Moonstone → Rockhounding Gifts

Our customer found moonstone while rockhounding in Wausau, Wisconsin and sent us a whole pile to make gifts for her family. We transformed it into a Mini Meridian Ring, Mini Astral Earrings, Dainty Compass Necklace, Petite Lodestar Necklace, and Waymark Key Tag.

Wisconsin moonstone has very unique coloring compared to what you may know as traditional moonstone, which is more of a cream color. Wisconsin moonstone is predominantly a sandy color with inclusions of deep blue. Within both colors, it has an electric blue flash which is absolutely stunning.

The flash is caused by light scattering between microscopic layers in the feldspar, and has different names depending on the rock you're seeing it in. In moonstone, it's called adularescence, and shows as a solid color. You can see it best through video, so be sure to check out the behind the scenes video of this incredible transformation on Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, or YouTube.

The photos below show the transformation from the original stones to the finished pieces.
