Meet Beverly of GeoArt Studio

Discovering a New Use for a Lifelong Rock Obsession

After retiring from a career in teaching, Beverly found herself in a jewelry class learning how to cut, polish, and shape stones with lapidary and carving techniques. Her carefully curated rock collection suddenly had new use. It was an epiphany, merging her passion for geology and rocks with the ability to transform those rocks into wearable art.

With years of lapidary experience now behind her, Beverly relishes the chance to take a seemingly nondescript stone and bring out its inner beauty at the lapidary bench.

Exploring the Boundaries of Mixed Materials

Her unique, nature inspired adornments use not only unusual, beautiful rocks from around the world but also overlooked materials such as glass, vintage jewelry, shells, and other manmade objects.

Experimentation is central to her practice, and she is constantly stretching her creative and technical abilities. Primarily trained as a silversmith, she also designs and fabricates settings in gold, gold fill, brass, and copper, often incorporating leather and beaded elements to frame each focal piece.

The Spark That Inspired Waystone

When Beverly turned otherwise ordinary rocks from her daughter Leslie's wedding venue into unique and meaningful bridesmaid gifts, the whole family knew they were onto something.

Those first pieces made from meaningful but humble stones provided the spark that inspired Waystone's founding. Beverly continues to work with Waystone today to fulfill customers' special requests, and her years of experience in crafting jewelry have been indispensable as Waystone expands its line of jewelry styles made with customers' own stones.

Recent Customer Special Requests

Waystone can turn most rocks into jewelry, but we often hear from customers who want a setting or shape we don't offer. Beverly makes your special request come to life with bespoke metalworking and stone shaping.
